Motor cruisers
A motor cruiser is a motor boat with an enclosed wheelhouse or inboard steering position, fitted out for living on board for days or weeks at a time. Motor cruisers typically feature a cabin, galley, toilet, fixed berths, large fuel and water tanks, etc. The hull is usually semi-planing or displacement, so you can cruise smoothly and economically. A motor cruiser is easy to handle and ideal for rivers, canals and lakes. Trawlers also fall into this category, and are very well suited to open water.

Questions about motor cruisers

To Advice →What is a trawler?
A motor boat with a high bow and a spacious superstructure, built to cruise long distances economically on open water. On Water&Wind, trawlers are classified as motor cruisers.
What should I look out for when checking the air draft?
On inland waterways, the air draft determines which fixed bridges you can pass under. A folding mast, radar arch or canopy makes a big difference. Use our ‘air draft under 2.5 m’ filter to view the low-profile motor cruisers.
Displacement or planing hull?
A displacement hull moves through the water: economical and comfortable, but with a limited top speed. A planing hull rises onto the water at speed, so it is faster but uses more fuel. Most motor cruisers have a displacement or semi-displacement hull, built for long, relaxed trips.
