Cruising yachts

A cruising yacht is a sailing yacht with a cabin and berths so that you can spend the night on board. From a compact cruiser for lakes and sheltered waters to a large yacht for crossing oceans, from racer to cruiser. When making your choice, also check the CE design category: this indicates the type of waters for which the sailing yacht is designed.

Questions about cruising yachts

To Advice →
What do the CE design categories A to D mean?

The CE design category indicates the type of waters for which a boat is designed: A for the open ocean, B for the open sea, C for coastal waters and large lakes, and D for sheltered waters.

How many cabins do I need?

Normally, you should allow for one cabin per two people. Also check whether the saloon can be converted into a sleeping area. The number of cabins and berths is listed in the specifications for each model.

Fin keel, twin keel or lifting keel?

A fin keel gives the best performance upwind. Twin keels let the boat stand upright when it dries out, which is useful in tidal areas. A lifting keel or centreboard reduces the draught for shallow water and makes the boat easier to trail.
