The boat is 9.94 metres long, 3.40 wide and has a draught of 1.99; the waterline length is 8.72 metres. The displacement is 3,800 kilograms, with approximately 1,520 kilograms of ballast. The hull and deck are vacuum-infused fibreglass and foam sandwich construction using vinyl ester resin.
The engine is a 20 hp Volvo D1-20 with a saildrive. The fuel tank holds 50 litres and the water tank 100 litres. The sail area (100 per cent) is 53 m². Twin rudders and a steering wheel are available as options.
The J/99 is classified in CE design category A. Below deck there are two aft cabins with double berths, two full-length benches, an L-shaped galley and a navigation table.
On deck, there is a floating jib sheet system, self-tailing winches and a stepped backstay system.
