RIBs

A RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) has a fibreglass or aluminium hull with inflatable tubes above it. This makes the RIB lighter and, above all, stable and safe in waves. The tubes can absorb impacts when mooring, which is why RIBs are often used as workboats, police boats or for fast trips at sea. There are also RIBs with a cabin for overnight stays, a hardtop and a spacious console/steering area.

Questions about rIBs

To Advice →
What material are the tubes on a RIB made of?

The tubes are usually made of PVC or Hypalon. Hypalon has been specially developed to be more resistant to sunlight and wear and tear. PVC is lighter and cheaper.

Should I go for a small RIB or a small inflatable boat?

A RIB has a rigid hull, which makes it more stable and faster. An inflatable boat does not have a rigid hull, which makes it easier to store and transport.

Can a RIB go to sea?

RIBs are among the most seaworthy small boats thanks to the buoyancy of the tubes, which is why rescue services use them. The CE category on the model page shows the conditions a RIB is designed for; larger RIBs are often category B or C.
