The boat can be sailed as a prao with a single float or as a trimaran with two floats, and is designed for sailors who wish to enjoy the water without a trailer or a berth.
The central hull is 4.35 metres long and just 58 centimetres wide. The floats are 2.80 metres long and each have a volume of 80 litres. In the prao version with one float, the boat is 1.50 metres wide; in the trimaran version with two floats, it is 2.40 metres wide. The central hull weighs 25 kilograms and a float weighs 7 kilograms, meaning two people can carry the boat and transport it on a car roof. At the front is a storage box for safety equipment, an anchor and a picnic.
There is no propulsion engine; the boat is powered solely by sail. The two-section mast is 4.70 metres long and carries a 5-square-metre mainsail and a 5-square-metre genoa. The centreboard is a retractable centreboard and the rudder is fold-up, meaning that the draught varies from 0.15 metres with the centreboard up to 0.70 metres with the centreboard down.
The 14.5 is CE-certified in design category D with a load capacity of 130 kilograms, described by the yard as ‘one adult plus one child’. The design is by VPLP Design, based on a concept by Jean-Hubert Pommois. According to the yard, it takes less than five minutes to assemble.
