The Next Generation version introduced a large number of modifications and improvements, particularly in terms of natural light and the on-board technical systems. The character of the model remained unchanged, namely that of a long-range cruiser that combines comfort with contemporary design.
The sheltered central cockpit and the hull, which retains its beam well aft, give the yacht both versatile sailing characteristics and plenty of living space below deck. The aft cabin spans the full beam of the yacht and has its own bathroom with a separate shower cubicle.
With a displacement of 19,900 kilograms and 6,500 kilograms of ballast, the 505 is a serious seagoing vessel. The keel is 2.45 metres deep as standard, with a shallow-draft version measuring 2.10 metres. The mast rises to 23.10 metres above the water.
When sailing close-hauled, the yacht carries 132 square metres of sail. In addition, a Code Zero of 110 square metres, a spinnaker of 178 square metres and a gennaker of 180 square metres are available, ensuring that progress can still be made even in light winds.
