The basic principle is to ensure that a crew of two can cross any ocean safely.
The most distinctive feature is the Zero Keel, a keel that is integrally laminated to the hull and therefore contains no bolts whatsoever. This eliminates the most common cause of keel loss in the event of a collision with floating wreckage. The rudder is a skeg-mounted Alpha Rudder with three independent bearings.
The hull is fitted with an extra-heavy laminate structure in the impact zones and, on the inside, a hand-built frame structure. On deck, recessed bulwarks, 80-centimetre-high handrails and triple wire railings provide a secure grip, even when the deck is wet and sloping.
The rig is a solent rig, with two headsails set at almost exactly the same position, so that the sail trim can be adjusted from the cockpit without having to step onto the foredeck. When sailing close-hauled, the standard mast provides 116 square metres of sail area, or 102 square metres with the lower version designed for the American inland waterways.
