The boat is 10.99 metres long and 3.60 metres wide, with a waterline length of 9.68 metres. The standard keel has a draught of 2.10 metres, whilst the optional keel has a draught of 1.80 metres. The displacement is 5,125 kilograms. The hull is vacuum-infused.
The engine is a Volvo diesel engine producing around 30 hp, fitted with a saildrive. The sail area when sailing close-hauled is 65 m² and that of the asymmetrical spinnaker is 120 m², set from a retractable carbon bowsprit.
The J/36 is classified in CE design category A. Below deck there are two cabins with double berths, a toilet aft, a dinette on the centreline, a galley and a navigation table.
The new deck has two steering wheels and an open stern with access to the rear.
