The First 18 SE is a modern and enjoyable introduction to keelboat sailing, designed for both competitive sailors and adventurous cruisers. The wide, flat and stable hull with a ballast centreboard makes planing accessible, whilst the minimalist rig – comprising a furling jib, a gennaker in a sock and a carbon mast without a backstay – keeps handling simple. The open cockpit accommodates solo sailors or a crew of up to three people.
The boat offers a sailing experience reminiscent of that of a dinghy, but on a more stable and safer platform. Twin rudders ensure control during fast planing, and the powerful square-topped mainsail performs well even in light winds, making both challenging regattas and relaxed day trips possible. A retractable keel and removable rudder blades make the boat easy to transport, suitable for shallow bays and international competitions, and ideal for sailing holidays and one-design races throughout Europe.
