About this boat
The Windelo 58 is a sailing catamaran which the yard presents as a versatile cruising boat. Like the smaller models, the 58 combines a sail rig with electric propulsion and its own power generation. The layout comprises a maximum of five cabins plus a skipper’s cabin. It has CE design category A certification for thirteen people.
The hulls are constructed from a sandwich structure comprising basalt fibre and a core of PET or PVC foam; the deck uses basalt fibre with PET foam. Basalt fibre is used here instead of the usual glass fibre because, according to the yard, it requires less energy to manufacture.
The sail plan comprises a mainsail of 129 square metres and a solent of 57 square metres. The propulsion system consists of electric motors with a minimum rated power of 60 kilowatts at 48 volts, driving the propeller shafts. A generator recharges the batteries from a 1,200-litre tank.
The lightship weight is 18.0 tonnes. The fresh water tank holds 600 litres and the holding tank 260 litres. The yard has not yet provided any figures for the J2’s sail areas, the Code 0 and the gennaker, or for the battery bank.
