Full description
It is a fast beach catamaran that is launched directly from the beach. The light, asymmetric fibreglass hulls provide lift, so no centreboards are needed. The double trapeze allows two crew members to make full use of the boat's power.
The Hobie 16 is sailed both recreationally and in races at world level. The boat is available in four configurations: standard, Club, Easy and Race. Depending on the version, the weight and sail dimensions differ, with smaller sails for training and club use.
In the standard version, the mainsail measures 13.77 m² and the jib 5.12 m²; the smaller set has 10.50 m² and 3.70 m². An optional 17.50 m² spinnaker is available. The mast is 7.92 metres long and the hulls are made of fibreglass sandwich.
Key dimensions: length 5.11 m, beam 2.41 m, weight 145 to 149 kg, load capacity 240 kg, mast height 7.92 m and a sail area of 18.89 m² (mainsail plus jib). The Hobie 16 falls into CE design category C, is intended for two to three crew members and has no engine.
