Danish folding trimarans from three generations of a family-run business.
Dragonfly trimarans are built by Quorning Boats in Fredericia, Denmark. Borge Quorning founded the company in 1967 and, together with his brother Bent, built the yard himself. The name Dragonfly was coined in 1972, and the first production model, the Dragonfly 25, was launched in 1980. Since 1995, his son Jens Quorning has been at the helm of the company, which is now in its third generation.
The turning point came with the Swing Wing system introduced in 1989, which allows the side floats to be folded away without the need for tools, reducing the beam by more than half. This means a Dragonfly fits into a standard box and behind a trailer. The current range comprises the Dragonfly, 25, 28, 33, 36 and 40, each of which is custom-fitted to the customer’s specifications.
