The hull is rotomoulded from Comptec PE3 polyethylene, a tough plastic that withstands impacts and beaching well and requires little maintenance. The bare hull weighs 43 kilograms, meaning a child can haul the boat ashore with a little help. The maximum crew weight is 135 kilograms.
There is no propulsion engine; the boat is powered solely by sail. The Sport version has a 3.7 square metre mainsail that can be reefed, whilst the Pro version has a fully battened sail measuring 4.8 square metres. A 2.7-square-metre ‘minisail’ is available as an option for the very youngest sailors.
The Tera is an internationally recognised class with its own racing circuit.
