The boat is aimed at families and young sailors and is forgiving for beginners, so even those who are just starting out quickly have fun on the water.
The symmetrical hulls with keels provide lift without the need for centreboards. This makes the Wave easy to use: launching from the beach and landing again is hassle-free. The netting between the hulls is made of welded mesh and is adjustable.
The hulls are made of rotomoulded polyethylene and, according to Hobie, are very durable. For safety there is a mast float at the masthead, which prevents the boat from turning completely upside down after a capsize. This makes righting considerably easier for small crews.
The rig consists of a 9 m² boomless mainsail on a 6.09-metre mast. The sail is powerful in light winds and is designed to depower automatically in gusts. With one to four people on board, the Wave is suitable for both solo outings and family trips.
