JR Yachts was founded in 2016 by Jaap de Jonge, a hydrodynamic engineer with a career in design, engineering and operations at Royal Huisman and Damen Shipyards. Many boatbuilders fit an electric motor into an existing hull designed for diesel. He opted for a completely new underwater hull, specially designed for electric boating.

This results in quiet, fuel-efficient boats that create little wake and have a long range: the Classic 7 can travel up to 120 kilometres on a single charge.
